pencilV dnešnom článku sa pozrieme na tvorenie podstatných mien a slovies od prídavných mien ako DEEP / HIGH / WIDE / LONG apod. Slovotvorba týchto slov je často súčasťou maturity, či iných medzinárodných certifikátov.

pencilV dnešnom článku sa pozrieme na tvorenie prídavných mien za pomoci prípon (suffixes) “-ful” and “-less”. 

FUL

Na začiatku článku si v stručnosti povedzme, čo tieto prípony znamenajú:

  • -FUL znamená “FULL OF” – teda bude nám naznačovať dostatok niečoho (niečo pozitívnejšie)
  • -LESS znamená “WITHOUT” – teda bude nám naznačovať nedostatok niečoho (niečo negatívnejšie)

Niektoré prídavné mená tvoríme tak, že prípony “-ful” alebo “-less”  pridávame k slovesu, či podstatnému menu. Napríklad:

USE

  • We have a lot of useful kitchen gadgets.
  • Many gadgets are completely useless.

Od niektorých slov nevytvárame prídavné mená pridaním oboch prípon (teda aj “-ful” aj “-less”):

SLEEP

  • I used to have a few sleepless nights when I was younger.
  • When we come home we felt very sleepy. (nie sleepful)

GRATITUDE

  • I’m so grateful to my mother for her support.
  • She is an ungrateful person. (nie grateless)

  • CARE → careful / careless
  • HARM → harmful / harmless
  • HOPE → hopeful / hopeless
  • PAIN → painful / painless
  • POWER → powerful / powerless
  • USE → useful / useless
  • THINK → thoughtful / thoughtless
  • FAITH → faithful / faithless
  • HELP → helpful / helpless
  • GRACE → graceful / graceless
  • REST → restful / restless
  • COLOUR → colourful / colourless
  • WASTE → wasteful / wasteless
  • CHEER → cheerful / cheerless

B) prídavné mená tvorené iba jednou z prípon

  • BEAUTY → beautiful / x
  • BRAIN → x / brainless
  • CHARM → x / charmless
  • HOME → x / homeless
  • DELIGHT → delightful / x
  • END → x / endless
  • TIME → x / timeless
  • PEACE → peaceful / x
  • EVENT → eventful / x
  • BEAUTY → beautiful / x
  • PLAY → playlful / x
  • COUNT → countable / countless
  • SUCCESS → successful / unsuccessful
  • SKILL → skilful (AmE: skillful) / unskilled
  • END → finite / endless
  • DELIGHT → delightful / awful
